Cooking with Grace #1

(Vegetarians Beware!!)

I made this a few weeks ago and I wanted to show you how to cook Fried Pork Cutlet aka Ton Katsu aka 돈까스 (don kka seh)
It’s VERY simple and easy to make.

Things you need:
Pork cutlet sliced (thin) – can get them anywhere…I usually get them at Super Wal-Mart
Salt and Pepper
Bread Crumbs…I recommend using Korean or Japanese ones, but that’s because those are the only ones I used. But bread crumbs are bread crumbs (.____.)
Eggs, whisked (I usually start with two eggs)
Flour
Pork Cutlet Sauce
Frying oil
Knife
Pounder thingy…cooking hammer? I really don’t know what it’s called hehe

Directions:
1. Cut the side with the fat to prevent the fat to gather together and “crinkle” the meat when cooked


2. Pound both sides of the cutlet with the hammer until it is thinner than what you started with


3. Season salt and pepper or whatever seasoning you like. I used garlic salt.


4. Cover both sides with flour.


5. Cover both sides of the meat with the eggs. Make sure it’s completely covered so the bread crumbs will stick to the meat.


6. Cover both sides with the bread crumbs. I do this twice so there’s a lot of bread crumbs on it.


7. Fry in oil until both sides are golden brown.


8. Set it aside on a paper towel to get rid of excess oil.

9. Slice and serve with rice, cabbage salad (thinly sliced cabbage with dressing), and pork cutlet sauce.


My favorite is called Bulldog and it looks something like this.



Another favorite of mine is curry cutlet…Japanese style!

Pray For Korea

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea says it has scrambled F-16 fighter jets and returned fire after North Korea shot dozens of rounds of artillery onto a populated South Korean island near the countries' western border.

South Korea's YTN television says two people were injured, several houses were on fire and that shells were still falling on Yeonpyeong island. Yonhap news agency, quoting a military official, says four soldiers are wounded. The reports couldn't be immediately verified.

YTN says that between 1,200 and 1,300 people live in the island, citing an island resident. TV pictures showed black and white smoke rising from the island.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea shot dozens of rounds of artillery onto a populated South Korean island near the countries' disputed western border Tuesday, and South Korean troops returned fire, military officials said.

South Korea's YTN television said two people were injured, several houses were on fire and that shells were still falling on Yeonpyeong island. Yonhap news agency, quoting a military official, said four soldiers were wounded. The reports couldn't be immediately verified.

YTN said between 1,200 and 1,300 people live in the island, citing an island resident. TV pictures showed black and white smoke rising from the island.

A South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff official said dozens of rounds of artillery landed on the island and in the sea. The official says South Korea fired back. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of JCS rules, said South Korea's military is on alert. He had no other details.

The firing comes amid tension over North Korea's claim that it has a new uranium enrichment facility and just over a month after North Korean leader Kim Jong Il unveiled his youngest son Kim Jong Un as his heir apparent.

Tensions between the two Koreas also remain tense after the sinking in March of a South Korean warship in which 46 sailors died. Seoul has blamed a North Korean torpedo, while Pyongyang has denied any responsibility.

The countries' western maritime boundary has long been a flash point between the two Koreas. The North does not recognize the border that was unilaterally drawn by the United Nations at the close of the 1950-53 Korean War.

North and South Korea have fought three bloody skirmishes near the maritime border in recent years, most recently in November 2009.

This is very unfortunate and I am very worried of my family in Korea.
War can possibly break out, but who knows what will happen.

포화 속으로 --71 Into The Fire

The movie is about the South and North Korean war and 71 students who played a very important role in the war.



My mom told me that they were doing a special screening for this movie in the States and I think it's been out for a week..maybe longer? I don't know how long the movie will be in theaters, but there's only one theater here that is showing it. She also told me that the purpose was for students to really see what it was like during the war.



I was also excited when I heard that T.O.P, Kwon Sang Woo, Cha Seung Won along with other famous actors were in the movie.
The graphics were really good, but I don't think any good war movie can really capture the moment back in time.


I don't really know a lot of Korean history because I've lived in America for a really long time. So, I was very excited to go watch it.
After watching this movie, I really want to learn Korean history..I am Korean so it only makes sense to learn my history...there are more reasons but they sound racist so, I'll just keep them to myself
